getting the bass guitar mix to translate to small speakers

I can often get a mix to work well on larger speakers, but how do you guys get the bass guitar to come across on really small speakers? as in laptop and phone speakers? I can almost never hear the bass at all from my mixes on those. I can definitely hear it with pro mixes even on the smallest speake...

if you live in a city, there should be lots of decent choices on craigslist.

I have several class A tube amps and they don't all buzz. The have varying degrees of noise, but more often than not are very quiet, even with a guitar plugged in.
