Best place to buy computer parts online?

Post by YOUR KONG » Thu May 27, 2004 5:12 am

Can anyone recommend anywhere with especially good prices? To connect my new hard-drive I need a UDMA IDE cable, which is apparently rarer than an one-eyed albino dodo around here.

Tnx

Man - this sucker was $30 at CompUSA, now I'm finding it for $7 to $11. Go Internet!

I've had good luck with www.essencompu.com. Also, some of mmy comrades swear by newegg.com.

Be sure and get round UDMA cable, it keeps the parts way cooler due to increased airflow:)

Another one down for newegg. Also, thinkgeek has good prices occasionally on various parts. Sometimes, you can go to local colleges and ask for their IT or Computer Services department and they can sometimes hook you up with some insane deals.

I've found www.newegg.com to have fast service + great return policies

I've found pricewatch good for getting an idea on the market value, but I pay a couple extra dollars to deal with newegg.

pricewatch works best in tandem with resellerratings.com. I've had some super-annoying interactions with some retailers I found off of pricewatch. Newegg and essencompu are where its at.

I went the whole pricewatch/reseller ratings route, and ended up choosing monarchcomputer.com for all my PC components. They struck a good balance between discount and reliability based on user feedback. Also they're outside CA, so the whole tax thing y'know. Had a positive experience with them.

I've used both mwave and tiger direct satisfactorily.

I've heard some grumbles about the latter's customer service, but I didn't have s problem on the one order I placed with them.

Newegg is actually one of the sites that I came across using pricewatch. The previous posts are right though...you have to be careful who you deal with on there.
