dvd-r recommendations

Post by honeytone » Wed Apr 07, 2004 8:10 am

I need to install a dvd-r drive on my mac, a g4 with dual 450 processors and 512 ram. does anyone have any suggestions on which brand is the most effective and reliable? I appreciate all input on this, and thanks for taking the time to read the post.

On my PC, i have a sony dru-500, which is getting old really fast, but it is still one of the better out there. I've never had ONE problem with it, and have had complete reliability so far. Sony has updated this model a bit, so just check out the sony's i guess. they work for me.

You might want to wait about 6 months, especially if you're doing video. They're going to come out with the double-sided 9 gig dvd burners, that will let you copy commercial dvds without compression. I hear the plextor's the one to buy.

My DVR-105 drive is rock solid on the G4-400, and my DVR-104 is fine on the G4-466... so I'd say the Pioneer's are pretty good... Plextors are also excellent. It shouldn't be too hard to get a good one.

go to xlr8yourmac.com and check the drive compatability chart... very handy.
