Pro Tools HD192 Accel / G5 Freezing

Post by fillmoresound » Thu Jul 15, 2004 6:59 pm

Problem: Sessions are running smoothly, then without any 'pop-up' message, Pro Tools and G5 stop responding and reboot is inevitable. However, the AUDIO continues to play until reboot.

No other programs are run with the machine, and both systems are brand new.

Has anyone experienced this? Is it a RAM or DSP issue? Could using "unauthorized" plug-ins cause this?

Could it be a heat issue?

Cracks? Yes. Trials? Probably not.

I have had some freezes with our HD3 rig in OSX as well, and it takes a full restart, along with shutting off/on the converters, and restarting from zilch.

Works well otherwise, besides C4 being slow as fuck when the editor window is actually up. Weird.

Do you have a digifirewire drive? Did you format it?

Yeah, that's what I've been fearing for the last few weeks. With new rigs and G5, we shouldn't have any of these problems. It seems like w/ ilock in place, finding workable non-virus plug-ins is inevitably more difficult. But, who's got the cash to dish out like $4000 for one Waves bundle. Freakin' ridiculous.

Don't have the digifire system, we're backing up sessions to external LaCie FW. Digidrive would work well (especially w/ digi tech support), but seemed too $$$ and not large enough to support what we needed.

Have you checked the sleep/power save function on your G5? I know that if that kicks in ProTools can act a little squirley.

If that isn't the problem then I'm going to say it's the unauthorized plug-ins. Get rid of them, they're bad karma!!
