Problems running M-Audio Delta 66 card with Dell 400SC Serve

Post by garywang » Sun Oct 31, 2004 10:36 am

Hi everyone,

I have a computer question for anyone who can answer. I'm currently running Cool Edit Pro v. 1.2a on a new Dell 400SC machine, with an M-audio Delta 66 PCI sound card ,and the M-Audio Omni I/O interface. It seems to work okay for the most part, but anytime I try to do anything on the machine, like bring up or scroll down a pull down menu, or even moving the mouse around a lot, the sound gets warbly. The problem is particularly noticable when I try to play MPEG files - the sound is completely corrupted there.

The 400SC comes with a PCI video card. My theory is that having both devices on the PCI bus is somehow overloading it, but honestly this is just a guess on my part, though. I know the Delta 66 card works, because I tested it on my other machine, an old 366MHz Compaq, and it works fine. Does anyone here have any experience with this issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Gary

What are you using for an operating system? Have you optimized your computer for audio use?

Does the sound only get weird when you 'do stuff' with the mouse, or will doing stuff with the keyboard also cause it?

I'm using Windows XP Pro. Not sure how to optimize for audio use. How do you do this?

No, it's not just the mouse. Any time there is movement or action on the screen, it affects the sound. Videos, like MPEGS or AVIs really mess the sound up.

Excellent suggestion. I looked, but didn't find anybody in there.

Any other ideas?

Cool Edit Pro v. 1.2a on a new Dell 400SC
Could this be a mismatch in itself? CEP 1.2 be old, mon! I am using a Delta 66/omni-studio with a Dell 8400 with Adobe Audition with no problems you describe. Something is seriously wrong as you no doubt realize. Best of luck! --Lee
