Monitoring a MIDI input in Tracktion on os x

Post by mightyman » Tue Dec 28, 2004 10:17 pm

I'm not familiar with midi but I got a USB MIDI keyboard for christmas (rock) (it's an m-audio keystation49e).

How do I get the keyboard to record in Tracktion? I set the MIDI device input to the Keystation (and the midi device output to the Keystation too cuz it's my only option). But I can't hear or record anything.

Any help welcomed!

Sir-

Did you drag a synth "filter" into the selected track? Or, further upstream, did you assign the MIDI device input to a particular track? Try those particular things.

Enjoy, etc.

Thanks -- that worked, i assigned a synth "filter" to the track, so I can now play and hear the synth.

However, I can't get tracktion to record the synth output. Hmmm....

Tracktion will simply capture the midi notes, velociites etc. From there, you add the synth, which in turn makes noise come out of your speakers. From there if you want, you can export the midi track to a wav (select track, go to export, export to wav, make sure that "only render selected tracks" is checked, then import your new wav "clip" into a new track) which will convert it to an audio file.

Awesome, thanks! That really helps.

One more question: how do i figure out which "soft synths" I can use with Tracktion? Can i use the synths from Garageband? Just VST synths?
