Harddrive Question for Powerbook

Post by justhitthebutton » Sat Jan 01, 2005 4:56 pm

just wondering what a average size firewire drive should i use for PTLE into a g4 powerbook? i have been told to go with the lacie d2 with the oxford 911 chipset. but i was wondering what would be a good size without being just excessive? 100G? 200G? 250G? bigger???

i've got a 160gig full or audio and video,
and a mostly free 200gig.

all depends on how much you expect to have laying around.
if you keep a lot of loose ends, you may need something big,
but if you have projects in and out the door quickly,
a smaller drive could surfice.

for the best value i would reccomend nothing less than 160gig. if you notice the pricing on those drives it's often no more than a $40 difference for an extra 100gig! also make sure you partition these large drives too. i usually split a 160 into two 80's and try not to have a partition any bigger than that (the smaller your partitions the better). i have also been using the new lacie d2 and have been pretty satisfied. and do make sure your drive has the 911 chip, it is usually not posted very clearly on the drive specs.

Unless you need tons of space and don't have a DVD burner, a 60 or 80gig FW drive runs better than a monster, even a 120gig. Thats just my experience.
