EMERGENCY: Hard Drive / Pro Tools Question

Post by underhill » Thu Jan 06, 2005 6:59 am

I am fairly illiterate when it comes to stuff like this, but I need some help. My band recorded an album this past summer doing all the overdubs / mixes on Pro Tools (Mac based). I believe it was version 6.1 and OS9. At the end of the sessions, we saved everything to an external HD.

This past week we pulled out the hard drive to do some remixes and here comes the problem: NONE OF THE FILES WILL READ. All the audio files, fader files, pro tools sessions all show up as ?documents? and there are no recognizable extensions on any of the files. HOWEVER, the file sizes seem right and there is definitely information there, it is just not reading right.

We have talked to several engineers, and no one seems to know what happened.

Possible culprits:
-switching from OSX to OS9 while hard drive connected
-trying to view files with free version of Pro Tools and not LE or HD

DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT HAPPENED? IS THERE ANY WAY TO GET THESE FILES BACK TO WORKING ORDER? Any help would be appreciated.
