I recently purchased an E-Mu 1820 audio interface so I could load tracks from my
reel-to-reel 8-track into my computer for mixing.
I have an AMD Athlon 1.6 GHz with 768MB RAM.
I'm running Sonic Foundry/Sony Vegas 4.0
Problem is, when I record all 8 tracks at once, they play back sounding slow.
It's not a sample rate issue...I checked that out.
I think my system just can't keep up with all that audio.
Does that make sense considering my specs?
do i have the power?
Re: do i have the power?
I would think that would be sufficient power. I haven?t used Sonic Foundry/Sony Vegas 4.0, but when Sonar is underpowered you get dropouts or really choppy sounds. It doesn?t make sense to me that it would slow down.
I have a couple suggestions. Try recording 1 track at a time so you are creating a smaller load. If you are having the same problem, it?s probably not your computer but some setting. You could also try recording from another source like a CD player just to make sure it doesn?t have to do with your tape player.
After that, I would try posting to this E-mu forum: www.productionforums.com/emu
They seem to handle the 1820 questions pretty well.

Re: do i have the power?
Geez, it sure sounds like a samplig rate issue. How slow is slow? I've never heard of a digital drive recording slow unless the sample rate was fucked up.
I could be wrong, but keep looking at that sample rate stuff...
