Logic Users: what are you putting on the master output bus?
Logic Users: what are you putting on the master output bus?
I have tried the Ad-Limiter plug in....destoys my lower end & some mids......any suggestions (in Logic) for something smooth and not too harsh that will bring up my gain stage for a commercial release?
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Logic Users: what are you putting on the master output b
I used the Waves C4 for the first time a few weeks ago. That's their 4-band compressor. I just slapped on the first preset which is something like "basic multi - setup" or something like that. Couldn't believe how much it made my mix gel together.
Maybe the slightest touch of limiting after that to tame your peaks . . .

voxengo has a plugin called TapeBus that comes in it's AnalogFlux suite. This is an amazing plugin. I suggest going and checking out the entire set at http://voxengo.com/analogflux/
I use this and then use an opto setting on the Waves rennaisance compressor (RComp). Very light settings on this though...just enough to hold it together.

I mix to a tape machine too..really allows you to get as loud as a "real" cd..everything I seem to put on the 2-buss sounds like mud or crap or weird..

toaster and beard have it.
Considering I don't Master (cuz I like it to be seperate from the tracking/mixing) I have really enjoyed mixing to reel-to-reel. There are a couple people here in Minneapolis that can master from reel-to-reel and I swear by the end result it does sound rough-and-tumble, more-so than an audio mixdown via internal computer mixdown (step down sampling/dithering). Pushing tape a bit smears the sound unlike any plug-in or d/a converter I've heard so far.

Re: Logic Users: what are you putting on the master output b
Adding plug-ins to the master fader while mixing ITB, can be a great and easy way to give the mix a little glue or that final touch. However, I'd strongly suggest also storing a copy of the mix without any processing. If you later decide to have it Mastered or processed by anyone else, it can be significantly easier for them by having a copy without the processing (you can always send a version with the processing as well, to let them hear what your 2mix processing was doing). Bouncing to tape during a mastering session is less exciting when a mix has already been flattened by a digital limiter. This may sound like a simple concept, but you'd be surprised how often people forget/neglect to have unprocessed safeties. It can save you a lot of "undoing" time if your tracks need additional work.

Amen... just to bump this back up. Anyone using any of the Logic or Apple plugs for "INB" master fader compression?theistheman wrote:blech.

On a side note, the free Inspector plug is great on the master for level/clipping monitoring.
