Keying tracks in Acid/Sonar

Post by YOUR KONG » Fri Jan 14, 2005 5:50 am

Has anyone managed to key anything in Sonar or Acid? By keying I mean track 2 is only audible when there's audio on track 1 (so you can make the sustained chord on track 2 sound in the same rhythm as the hi-hat pattern on track 1, for example).

Sonar's compressor has a "side-chain" feature, but that's for ducking, which is the opposite of what I want.

I just searched on KVR-VST and found this thingy, which has a Key/Volume knob. No idea if it's any good, though.

Anyone? Thanks!

I believe I've done what you want using the side-chain feature in Sonar. Use the dynamics processor effect with the side chain. Setup the curve to be a gate - ie, low input - no output, high input - full output.

Thanks Phiz, I'll experiment with that. I had a hunch the settings had something to do with it, but I didn't try it as a gate - I'll do that.

And the compressor I linked to works also. Yeehaw!
