Nuendo at sample level

Post by fifthstory » Fri Feb 04, 2005 5:30 pm

Hey,
I'm trying out an older version of Nuendo (1.6 i think) and was doing some editing, and when i got down to the sample level everything was squared off (not just at the top and bottom, but all the way up).

I'm wondering if this is a natural display thing with nuendo, or if this has something to do with my a/d converters. I'm used to using the Pro Tools LE systems and i never saw this with that stuff, but i didn't think my M-Audio delta 66 could be a worse conversion than the 001.

Also, since i'm used to Pro Tools i'm finding the editing in Nuendo to be somewhat difficult and cumbersome, is the 2.0 version better or is there another program that is similar.

Thanks,
Chris

Did you check your waveform zoom?

hmmm, I have 1.6 and haven't seen that.
Just to go ahead and mention it, are you talking about the waveforms diplayed in the main window? If so there is a magnification slider on the top right which will display the waves clear off the map if you wanted to. (sorry if that seems too obvious to mention)

Zoom in 1:1 and see if you see it in the edit window.

Now if you can tell me how to avoid the damn clicks when nuendo goes over a drop in I'd love to hear it. That's a known issue with 1.6

And editing is definitely cumbersome with it,

It does however sound better than all the other DAWs
(yeah I said it)

Take a file you tracked in something else and play it back through nuendo and you'll see what I mean.

Sonar is pretty good, I had sonar3 for a minute but I sold it because I needed the moolah and I am way more accustomed to Nuendo, but it sounds nice and is pretty powerful

I'm using Nuendo 2, I also don't know exactly what you are refering too, is it that when you zoom you get the digital sample and hold view? I've only seen that in logic, sounds like a feature!

What do you mean when you say the editing is cumbersome? I do some editing in Nuendo, but I can't say it's hardcore editing, so please explain if you don't mind.

I definitly agree on the sound being great though.

Thanks for the advice,

I will have to check your suggestions. I haven't been able to absorb the program fully, I guess it just takes a different thought pattern than mine.

As far as the editing, what I mean is simple stuff like copying and pasting a selection... I really don't like that you can't bounce around time by clicking on the tracks. I guess its just because I'm so used to PT. I really want to find something on the same level of editing. I fi was just using a program like a tape machine Nuendo is great.

anyway,
thanks.

I work on both PT and Nuendo.
I personally can do edits and fades WAY faster in Nuendo.
I can comp a vocal in half the time.

Everytime I work on PT it feels slightly cumbersome to me.
Probably because I work on Nuendo more now and have habits formed.
You probably just need some tutorials to get yourself comfortable.
