New TapeOp alert!

Post by kayagum » Sat Jan 20, 2007 6:33 am

Just got mine yesterday (Fri 1/19).

In the issue:

Geoff Emerick
Pete Anderson & Sally Browder
David Lewiston
Jonathan Kreinik
Jamie Laboz
Ghetto Recorders
Crowley & Tripp

and Larry buys a house in AZ(!) (Jackpot will stay in Portland). Congrats, Larry!

Quote of the issue: "I think all newbies should be required to start on a Tascam 424MKII. If you can make something sound good on that with no compression and no EQ outside of what's built into it, you can make anything sound great." -- Stephen Baldassarre, first letter in the issue.

Looking forward to this issue! I also started on a Tascam -- Porta One (battery powered). Great for abandoned buildings and warehouses back in the day.

Gonna be one hell of a commute for Mr. Crane.

Got mine today. The first letter did bring up some good points.

However, I started on a Fostex x-15. I still have the tapes from my 1st band where I used to record the practice sessions.

Good times.

Yamaha MT-1X.I still have it. Commute? This just means more time to work on the mag. I hope.

Me too...What I didn't know was that a belt inside had slipped off of where it was supposed to be and everything was running (roughly) double speed. That probably helped with fidelity. I miss that 4-track. I should dig up it's replacement soon (Tascam 424mk?) and use it for a song or two.

As for the Yamaha, I have a friend who still uses one for a live mixer/crunch box. It might not be the MT-1X tho.

I should have said I still have the Fostex X-15 tape deck too.....
Although I haven't used it in a while..I think I lost the original power supply when I moved 8 years ago, and now I'm using something else that matches the current and voltage needed. I still have the batter pack that attaches to the machine too so that you can do field recordings....
