Article on Vocal Tips? Mainly the throat coat tea

Post by CabreeToe » Mon Oct 23, 2006 2:39 am

I can't remember which issue nor can I find a few of my old issues that has that article on detoxing for vocal sessions and using "Throat Coat" tea.
I remeber that is was to be brewed in a thermos.
But I don't remember what else.
Can anyone provide me with the recipe for brewing the teas.
I'm interested in this for my vocal talent as well as for myself.
I've got one killer head/throat/chest infection.

Thanks alot for any info

Not sure so much about that stuff, but if I want to get my throat in better shape, I drink tea mixed with cayenne pepper. Works like a charm.

I could be wrong, but I believe the throat coat tea is for dry, scratchy throat. I know one of the main ingredients, slippery elm, is beneficial for mucus secretions, but if you've got congestion, it could make it worse. I think you need more of an expectorent, which cayenne is. And the hot/cold compress is good, no, great, to clear out congestion.

good luck, hope this helps

All good suggestions...for what its worth I've also had pretty good luck with a product called Vocal Ease. Its a spray with a bunch of herbs in it. I think its probably more like Throat Coat tea rather than cayenne.

I know a couple of singer that rely on Throat Coat if they are sick and need to sing. As I'm not a singer I can not comment any further...

I can totally vouch for the throat coat: pre heat the thermos with BOILING water. Once it's hot, toss in a few bags of throat coat. Add more boiling water, seal it up, use it in about an hour. Definately works. Gets better the longer it's in the thermos, too. So if you need it, load up a couple.
