eels and parrallel universes

Post by stoneman » Tue Oct 21, 2008 8:21 pm

its always fun for me to check out records made by tape op folks. some hit and some miss. i picked up eels blinkng lights recently and really enjoy it. a lot.

its now a couple of weeks after and i left the tv on during dinner --and caught a special on tv about mark everetts dad...hugh... who invented the parrallel universe theory. its an interesting show about physics presented for people like who dont get quantum phsyics.

anyways, its a nova thing on pbs so if you like the eels check it out.

Im a big eels fan and have been wanting to see it. Do yourself a favor and get Electro-shock Blues. One of the most depressing albums but amazing music! ALl his stuff is great, I really find that he's one of those artist I can listen to everysong and not think that one or two where "Filler" on the album. Its all great. That was the most exciting tapeOp I've gotten in a while. (although they are all great, I just havent heard of most of the other people in the mag often.)

I saw the Eels at the MN Zoo amphitheatre a few years back. It was a great show. They played like 4 or 5 encores. which was fun, and lame at the same time. :? I have liked the Eels since Beautiful Freak, which had some duds IMHO on it. Electro-Shock Blues is an amazing album. Actually, I highly recomend all their albums. Buy them now before it's too late!!!

I was going to recomend the same thing but I though electroshock was a good starting point for new listeners (better then Blinking lights IMHO). Have you heard any of his stuff pre-eels? He did two albums as E and they are great as well (although my favorite is the Levity soundtrack he did).

They are a little hard to find. I think I got them from musicstack.com. The Cd's are by E and are called A Man called (e), and Broken Toy Shop.

I really enjoyed that episode of Nova. I wouldn't call myself a huge Eels fan, but I went to see him at a show where he played with one other guy and it was amazing the music just the two of them made. They also did this great thing where they switched off from piano to drums mid song literally taking the sticks from eachother never missing a beat.
