I need to go listen to "Bookends" again...

I remember listening to it again and again on headphones when I was a kid, and just being marveled by the sounds...
And then I "outgrew" it...
Yeah, right...

Now that I know that this character was behind the board will surely catapult that recording to the top of my fav list again....

Fantastic interview. I've read it a couple times already and babbled for 10 minutes at my wife over how cool just one of his answers was.

I'd love to read a book of this stuff.

...and I agree... I can't believe this magazine gets delivered to me for free.

I spent hours as a kid listening to my older brother's copy of Bookends. I'm going to have to find it again. "Old friends, sit on their park bench like bookends..."

His comment that Art Garfunkel did nothing but twist his hair in his fingers was pretty funny.

I concur with everyone else. I was all up in this article from the beginning. I've read countless interviews in countless magazines but this one had to be the most brutal and honest of them all. Even though much of the discussion revolved around Bob himself, it never seemed like one of those Keith Richards "me, me, me" interviews. Ass kicking quality for any rag, but EXCEPTIONAL for a free mag!! Give yourselves one big pat on the back!

+1 on the great read. Bob is an old school staff producer. His perspective is priceless. I found myself reading large sections of this interview to my wife, mostly, I think, because I wanted to hear it read out loud. It was riveting. Thank you for the great work.

Having been out of the Tape Op orbit for a while, I was a bit late to the party. But I agree the Bob Johnston article was the most bada$$ Tape Op article ever. 'Is it rolling Bob?'

Great interview...

Is the session itself, the one under the heading 'Working with Bob Johnston, Case One', going to be made available?

Thanks,
Bernie

Best interview I have read in Tape Op so far. Good job guys!
P.S. does anybody know when Bob's book will be available?

Glad you found Bob Johnston because I often wondered if he was still making records, building space stations, bringing clean water to the world,or some other endeavor pushing humanity forward. Great choice and a job well done.Thank you thank you. Columbia brought a lot of good music into my life and the quality level was consistantly pretty high. Dylan,Birds,Blood sweat and tears,Santana,...
