re. unrealistic expectations: Listen to a Patsy Cline record. Her intonation is pretty spot-on. I don't think expecting vocalists regarded as the top of the field to have great intonation is unrealistic.

Regarding extreme AT as an effect, yes it's a stylistic thing, but it is now waaaaay overdone and for me it is a turn-off! IMHO

Other than that Thank you Larry for saying something that deperately needs to be said beyond the community of studio rats.

That quote is actually from a post in this thread by "Feedback 50". I obviously made a mistake when using the quote tool. I have corrected it.

Yeah, wow. I'm not a fan of perfect tuning on singers by any means! Bring on the Lou Reed, Bob Dylan, Patti Smith, Ian Curtis, Michael Stipe, Kristen Hersh, etc.

Still glad we do not own a auto-tune device in any of our studios ..... So the artist has to work a little harder ~ at least its their natural voice on the final.

While I do think its a bit whack to throw auto tune on every vocal, i love the effect of tuned multi tracked back up "oohs or aaahs" for texture.. gives it a nice perfectly pitched pad/synth effect.. Def not against Auto-tune!!! Over use of anything is super annoying, but wouldnt write something off just cuz dylan & co were never able to fuck with it!
