Just picked up this album for $.50. Such a great record. A buddy hipped me to the fact that there was an article done on the making of this record.
Anyone know which issue that would be?

There's a John Fischbach article way back in Tape Op 21. He was one of the main engineers on SONGS. It's not actually a very big article, but he does talk about the album some.
Maybe someone else will know if it's in the second TAPE OP book?

A pretty great resource re SONGS, and a fun watch, is the CLASSIC ALBUMS dvd or vhs about that album. Stevie, Fischbach, the other engineer, and the original musicians are all in it and re-play bits of some of the songs. It's cool to watch Stevie demonstrate how he built up "I Wish," playing Rhodes, then drums, then three overdubs of monophonic synth for the "guitar" parts in the intro. Also a nice band take of "Sir Duke" and a chance to see Stevie play the fancy Yamaha synth he used for strings in "Village Ghetto Land."
The DVD was out of print last I heard, and out here sometimes costs $30-40, but I thought it was worth it.
Hope this helps.
