Studio Rates and Trust Me I'm a Scientist

Post by TapeOpLarry » Tue Jan 08, 2013 11:05 am

http://trustmeimascientist.com/2013/01/ ... ey-charge/

from Justin's observations "I have never, ever, been in a truly busy recording studio where the primary asset was gear. Ever."

I'd tend to agree. Studios with a good rep have SOMETHING going on that works, and past a certain, very low, price point similar gear is available at all studios.

Interesting article. I can't relate to a busy market POV, but there are plenty of truths to observe.

The gear observation is a good one. I have a ton of unique weirdo gear that can't be found many places, but it seldom affects booking. When people put together a dream gear list they want to use for booking decisions, and then look at your studio, it's almost a guarantee they are just kicking tires. You are certain to not have one of their 'must have' items, no matter how much you have.
