Anybody here actually own Grado headphones, namely the Rs-1/2 models?
How about the headphone amp...if so, what differences do you notice if you have
A/B'd the amp to a standard receiver's headphone amp?

I have read the raving reviews about the cans. Just wondering if anyone can quantize the amp's performance.

i have the 80s. love them. i even do a fair amount of mixing on them.

but really they are more for pleasure, they have a funny bottom and top that sounds great.

sometimes i hand them to people during mixdown and say:

this is what your music would sound like if it were mastered.

Hey, how do you guys clean the pads? Mine are getting a bit crusty. Can you remove them and wash them with dish detergent or something?

i use preventitive measures. you know, wash my ears and stuff. mr. dirty head.

i bet you could take them off soak them in acetone overnight. that should take care of them. i mean, there will be no more crust. then just pour the liquid into an ear pad shaped cast (i recomend using the "lost wax" method like how ming era bronzes were made).

I own a pair of SR-80's as well and love them. If you are interested in headphone amps, you can make one for next to nothing. Visit headwize.com and search for the Chu Moy or 'cmoy' headphone amp. I believe the Grado, like most other 'hi-fi' headphone amps, are based on inexpensive opamps.

hope that helps

what i wanna know is how to keep the cords straight. i ruin more headphones by kinked cords than anything else. my grados are starting to cut in and out if they get real tangled.

I use them for DJ styluses. The 200's are great, the best mix between dj/audiophile gear. I really tried to like their regular styli, but ultimately, i just genuinely prefer the Shures. [/i]

Did someone actually write "quantize the amp's performance."
Oh...that was me. I just read that and have no idea where such phrasing came from. Interesting.

I've got a pair of RS1s and they're the only headphone that I'll use to reference a mix. You can hear grass grow with these, the detail is amazing. They take a bit of getting used to as they are a bit bright.

Hi,
I have the SR 80's, they are great. I blew a speaker in them, sent them back to the factory, and for something like $20.00 they came back new :) Plus my ears don't sweat like in the 7506 sony's I use tracking. The SR 80's are super, for everything but tracking.
