DEATHMATCH : Audix (i5 and d6) Vs. Shure (sm57 and beta 52)

Post by spomer » Sun Dec 25, 2005 12:26 pm

Im thinking of trying out some of the Audix mics (i5 and d6) and was wondering if anyone out there had an opinion on how they measured up to Shure's 57 and beta 52. It seems as thought they are made for the same recording applications, but if anyone out there has anyhting good or bad to say about the Audix stuff i would appreciate the feedback. I just dont wanna go out and but them and realize they are the same or less than capable as my 57 and beta 52.

Happy holidays, yall!

I like the i5 a lot better than the 57 on any type of guitar, and I like it just as much as the 57 on snare which are the two main things I use mine on. I've never been that huge of a 57 fan, but I dig the i5. I used it on vocals for a guy who insisted on a handheld mic and it beat out a 58 surprisingly, but I think it's safe to say (imo) it's mainly an instrument mic.

I have no idea, but your name, if that's your name, sounds familiar.

someone will eventually chime in and say the D6 is only suitable for metal, NOT TRUE
Ive used it on everything from vintage rogers and ludwigs to full blown DW death metal kits and it kicks ass on all of them. It's all in the placement, and hardly ever needs to be eq'd

I love mine

I agree with you on the D6. I use one live with a jazz band and another at home in the studio on everthing else and in between. even sold my AKG D112. I also picked up an i5 recently and like it a lot too. Seems a bit brighter than the 57 and I've only tried it on snare so far.
