I find it next to impossible to be critical, attentive and rational when high, drunk or even slightly buzzed. Once the day's work is done, I will gladly enjoy a beer with the band.

Back when I enjoyed the smoke, I created some of the most god awful mixes I have ever assembled.
hell 6 beers over 8 hours isn't even going to put a dent in my tolerance.

Yeah, me too. I used to listen way too loud, that was one of my bigger problems.

I dont really smoke much anymore. I definity will NOT when working on someones record. You wouldn`t just show up to work all stoned or drunk now, that would just be stupid!

Some people can get a way with it, I guess? I would rather save it as a night cap, when work is done.

I just had this funny image in my head when I read orbb post.

I stopped smoking and recording when I realized people were paying me for my services.

Doing a late night mix session while stoned is something else....

I did a session with a vocal producer and a singer who bought some of the strongest weed they could get delivered to the studio after asking and begging to get some from anywhere. The producer insisted I smoke with him, handed me a joint, then as I handed it back he said, "no man, that's yours", as he proceeded to roll one for himself. After about 20 minutes I realized I had never been so high in my life while working. My mind was completely focused and I was making suggestions before the producer did about vocal strategies and stacking backgrounds, etc. For whatever reason, they were like Cheech and Chong and I was on top of everything. Your frame of mind and the quality of the weed has everything to do with it.

I personally hate pot but I've heard great work done by stoned people.

I've decided to finish this record I'm working on TOTALLY sober. All natural foods, no booze, pot, etc etc. My mind feels clearer than it ever has in my life.

Regardless of which method is "right", flipping back and forth between pothead and very very sober has been educational.

Richard Buckner, always the diehard, took up cigarette smoking for the recording of "Since" so his voice would sound a little different on that album. After he got the album done he methodically quit right away.

Or so I have read.

The Beatles, as we all know, experimented with drugs on their songs.

Did Geoff Emerick experiment with drugs while he engineered them?

My friend's dad, who is about age 55 and who has a bona fide music PhD, cannot name the four Beatles. He is from Canada though. Maybe he'd do better if we asked him to name the three human and one non-human members of Rush or something....

I assure you it has little to do with him being Canadian. We're all aware of the Beatles over here. Forget the PhD... what about just being a teenager in the 60's? You'd think he would have heard of them then, no?
