MAC to PC pro-tools
Can sessions that were recorded on a MAC be opened up on Pro-Tools XP? If so will all the fades and edits be there as well?
yes. but only if the sessions use windows compatible audio files. IE: NOT SDII files. You will need to use .wav or .aiff format audio.

The perception should not be whether the session will open on a PC from a MAC.
We record sound as Broadcast Wave files now in a computer, not on to audio tape.
Broadcast Wave files can be read by most any program on a MAC or PC.
Don't confuse software with audio.
Your audio files can be played by a Pro Tools program on any computer.
The audio files are the 'master' performances, not the session data.

The answer to your question is "Yes", but there are some addenda, quid-pro-quos, and provisos involved. Check out the entire chapter devoted to Mac/PC and cross-version compatibility in the ProTools 7.0 reference manual. It's chapter 10 starting on page 141. You can download the manual from www.digidesign.com. Also check out page 50 of the same manual to get details on saving sessions for compatibility.
Finally, there are some issues with different drives. If the session is on an NTFS or FAT 32 formatted drive, then Windows will have no problem, Mac OS X will be able to read but not write to NTFS.
If it's a Mac formatted drive (HFS+) then you can't even raad the drive in Windows. In this case, go to www.mediafour.com and buy MacDrive 6 which will let you read HFS+ on your PC like it was NTFS. I use it and love it.

You don't have to do that anymore as of version 7.PeterAuslan wrote:When first starting your session you have to check the "enforce Mac/PC compatibility" box. If your session was not originally setup that way you can use the "save session copy" option under "file". And yes, the Mac Drive program is quite good.
MacDrive is great
