Amek 9098 Compreessor

Post by Mane1234 » Tue Nov 14, 2006 7:53 pm

I have a chance to buy an Amek 9098 Compressor and was wanting some opinions. I'll get it for a few hundred than what they list for. Didn't find much on the boards here. Does anyone have any experience with this piece?

Thanks
Of course I've had it in the ear before.....

I've used the pre/eq and it was stellar. Ultra-clean and smooth but almost too clean for many sources that need some rock grit. I remember looking at the compressor and liking the options. The sound is probably ultra-clean aswell so that may or may not suite what you'd use it for.

I'm picturing this as my 2 mix compressor so I may not want anything too colored anyways. Thanks for your reply....Anyone else?

I dunno about two mix, but it is a pretty cool comp.
It kind of "feels" like a pair of LA3A's with less color from the amps.

Good for tracking vocals sometimes, or bass once in a while. If you dont have anything snazzier, it could be a fun one in the collection as you build...

I have used one a few times tracking vocals. I liked it. My normal tracking comp. is an API 2500.

Thanks for the replies guys

Joel, could you elaborate a bit more why this might not be suitable for a 2 track comp? My other choices currently are a pair of LA4's, an 1178, but one of the channels is down right now, or a DBX 1066...

Thanks

I am sure it would work. I didnt say "not suitable."
It is a good, solid compressor that will compliment your other choices. I personally dont have one, and probably never will. I feel like everything sounds a little "plastic" coming out of the thing. I am sure there are people that make huge records that love them. I simply never fell in love with it, and I personally would not run my whole mix through it.
