This tape machine with this amp is in the Gates Radio Co. catalog from 1960. The amp IS the full electronics set for the transport. So, yes, together as a set only.

If it was a military spec, then they would all have to be the same in basic appearance, layout, and function. In this case it may just be a civilian piece that also has a MIL designation and was purchased as-is.

I think what you found yourself there is a nice little nugget of sonic potential...that's what i think.
