Monster Cable lawsuits...

Post by parlormusic » Fri Jan 05, 2007 9:04 am

What's the latest in the B.S. lawsuits that Monster Cable had on any company with the word "Monster" in it?

For those of you who don't know, here's just a little bit of what you can find on the internet about this. It gets my blood boiling!!

I have to say that I really like the way that cable sounds, but fuck those guys. When I first heard about this stuff a few years back, I couldn't believe it. That stuff is the most ridiculous bullshit and I'll never buy Monster Cable again.

Wow. Consider me a former, but never future, buyer of Monster Cable now.

I'm surprised the CFO seems to think that the attorney's fees for all this are worth the .1% improvement in overall branding.

I mean, why are they bothering? How many people are really going to think "Well, I hated the Monsters, Inc. movie, so now I'm never going to buy a Monster cable."??

Some corporate law firm is getting rich off of this craziness.

Never bought any and never will.. overpriced and with all that crap no way. Notice they only pick on people without a ton of money. I dont see them going after Disney - Monsters Inc or what about Monster House, Monster Garage. They only pick on the ones they know they can bully.

Which defintely offsets the minimal increase in brand equity they build with their imagined exclusive control of the word "monster."

Incidentally, this reminds me of 20-some years ago when TSR, the company that made Dungeons & Dragons, went about trying to trademark all sorts of mythological/historical names so no other game system could use them. Names like Cyclops, Medusa, Minotaur, Kraken, Unicorn and, oddly, Nazi.

I thought about changing my screen name to "monster" but I just don't have the money. Holger Czukay should sue Monster Cable for infringing on his brand:

We won't use their products at Record Plant. It's BS the way they treat people. And you know it's bad when the "Pop Machine" won't touch their stuff because of their business practices.

Wow, after briefly skimming those links, I'm convinced, never gonna buy their stuff again.

Not that, come to think of it, I have any Monster Cable in my studio anyway...

Some companies see this type of lawsuit as a source of revenue. I wonder how many ppl sent them a check because it was cheaper to settle out of court. Sorta a way to use the legal system for extortion.

sure seems like we should send them some hate mail and tell them give it up or we will quit buying their overpriced products anyway. I am proud to say I do not nor have I ever owned any Monster products. I will not be purchasing any in the future and plan on advising my local music stores NOT to carry their products.

Where I work, bands tend to leave cables behind. Sometimes I hang onto them for later use. Sometimes, it's Monster cable, which I cut into pieces with a big knife.
