I have a 1954 Thin Twin that I love. Easy to play, looks beautiful & sounds just like it should. The sound is very much old blues twang, just a little bit of banjo attack, very comfortable to play. But, I think that every guitar sounds different, depending on who is playing it. Stevie Ray would sound like Stevie Ray no matter what guitar..... etc. As I said, I do love mine. It great & different for an overdriven lead sound. Its not too practical for live performance, its very prone to feedback at higher volumes. I just don't take it to blistering volume blues jams.......in fact, I don't go to those at all...!
I hope this was helpfull.

thanks for the description. i would be playing it through an old montgomery ward 25 watt head, with the volume cranked...but that will not trigger feedback I hope since it's only 25 watts. Basically want a fuzzy sound that can keep quiet.

Where you stand in relation to the amplifier makes all the difference.

25 watts is more power than you might think!

Old Kays are awesome. I've got the one called "Value Leader" (you'd never get away with a name like that today). Aside from being buzzy when not pointed North or South, it sounds really unique. Very bluesy, hollow and mellow attack. A lot of fun through super hot tubes.
