Jason,

I had the stereo only deal in DP. When I changed to Tracktion, I got mono back.

I emailed them (him) at the time, but never heard back.

I'm still running on a G3!

Argh! I'm using DP as well. I don't feel like migrating. I have such a hard time hearing plugin comps I have been looking forward to something I'd used and liked before.

How do you like Traktion vs. DP? I have always liked DP for how well it works like a real-world studio environment.

Was it easy to transfer existing stuff over?

SpitFish is my "go to" de-esser.

Don't get me wrong - I hate using de-essers at this stage. But out of all the de-essers I've tried, SpitFish was the least obnoxious and the most controlled of the bunch.

Regarding the Intel Mac thing, I got the Fishphones plugs to work on my Macbook Pro in Tracktion 2, but they won't work on Tracktion 3, which is the new Intel-native version. It's a faster and better program, but I really would like my plugins back.

I use Blockfish religiously as a drum mix compressor. I love the different sounds it's capable of producing by tweaking the parameters behind the face, and by virtue of the vca or opto settings. Don't even get e started on the complex mode........it's like channeling John Bonham.

I got a new home rig recently (intel iMac 24) and I can't get it to work on this thing?
Is there something missing?
It will not work on the Intel macs at all ... hence my sticking with a G5.
It totally works on Intel macs, i'm using blockfish on my intel mac mini.

I love blockfish on bass especially

I use Blockfish just for the saturation sometimes.
It can give a sound that 'something missing'.
Last time out, it was on acoustic guitar.

The compressor is cool too, but one of those things that works well or not at all I reckon.

Jason,

DP was "too much" for me. I just want a vitual tape machine, and some editing and basic mixing. Tracktion fits the bill, though it takes some getting used to. I can also get more out of my anemic G3 w/ it. But I'm Mac Book bound...

Tracktion 3 looks good, but I want less not more features, so I think I'll stick w/ 2.

From this thread, seems the intelMac/fishphones work/no work thing is program, not hardware, dependant.

I just rendered the DP tracks I needed one at a time -- it wasn't that much stuff. If you had a lot it would be a drag.

Wow I had no idea, I always thought that non-intel VSTs and AUs wouldn't work on the new Macs. After all, there was a load of uproar when PSP kept delaying a universal AU of Vintage Warmer ...

BTW, are we talking AU or VST being used here?

I love Blockfish.... it is one of my favorite software comps.... i love using it across a buss, like a background vocal submix from Logic before it hits the converters and comes to 2 channels of the board. before I had much in the way of outboard comps, i would occasionally use it to destroy room mics...

YES.

blockfish on room mics is just entertaining as hell. i love it. i don't know what 'complex' actually does, but it really is something. i throw that on for playback all the time now. drummers always get all big-eyed, it's funny.

usually i go OTB for compression as i have a few nice analog things, but if i'm just doing something quick i'll just use the blockfish and it always works great. and there's been a few final mixes where i've ended up using that on the room mics instead of 5 grand worth of analog comps. not bad.

and i've used the dominion in mastering a few times when i've gotten stuff that already super crushed...it can help at least give the illusion that there's some attack left on anything...

For those that don't know, Sascha, the developer of digitalfishphones, is now working on Samplitude. He's done some cool plugins for them that can now also be purchase separately:

A couple of these are suped up versions of older plugins like dominion and endorphin, others are all new.

I actually have Blockfish on the snare, kick, and mono OH on the track I just posted in this thread. I've got zero outboard anything, so this plug saves my life mixing in der boxen.
