I'm currently using a G-4 dual 867 'hoover mac' with orig PCI slots
I've got a line on a faster G-5 (dual 1.8?) that has the same PCI slots
If I use Carbon Copy Cloner to completely clone the system drive on the G-4 will I be able to put everything on the G-5?
(trying to figure out if I'm gonna have to go through the nightmare of reauthorizing all my stuff on this new rig?
Any ideas for me?
Is there a better program than Carbon Copy Cloner?
thanks in advance
Moving everything to a new(er) computer
I went through the same process just a couple of months ago. Except for having to insert my DP disc, everything came right back up. I used CC Cloner with no problem at all.

It depends on the program.
Some of the Native Instrument stuff will need to reauthorize...
Make sure that you de-authorize from the computer you're migrating from on things like iTunes and Ableton Live... those i know about for sure.
Ableton is allowed to exist on two systems.
iTunes songs are allowed 5 systems.
Cloning will work for a lot of stuff. But a lot of authorizations are tied to the serial number of the machine itself so it depends. Some programs require a reauthorization after a period of time...
Carbon Copy Cloner is great for this though.

I did the same thing and it worked fine, same issue having to inset my DP 4.6 disk but once that was done I had no problems at all.roscoenyc wrote:I'm currently using a G-4 dual 867 'hoover mac' with orig PCI slots
