i switched from logic express and onyx 1640 to protools LE and digi 003.

I regret it

In the future I'm going to go apogee ensemble and logic 8

I haven't tried sonar. I didn't like cubase. I say go logic.

It depends on what kind of music you are doing but logic is really a do all program with solid audio and midi features

I have nuendo 3 (4 just came out) its pretty damn user friendly in my opinion, and i'm pretty new to the game.

I used to use Nuendo 3 a lot. Never again.

I really can't stand using Nuendo anymore now. No way to route sidechains to compressors logically, no expander plugins at all, no master fader ability.

I like Logic. If I HAD to use a PC that didn't have OSX on it, I'd probably be stuck between nuendo and protools. :(

sonar

track layers alone convinced me, plus the great support form and 64bit engine.

There is now in Cubase 4 (and I assume Nuendo 4).

I like Cubase a lot. It makes sense to me. ProTools has always been a bit confusing to me and from a purely aesthetic point of view, it looks like a glorified version of Microsoft Word circa 1994.

Just my two cents.

i went from PT digi002/001 to logic8/ensemble and its great. the quck swipe comping and spac designer alone are fantastic. may not be the best choice if you are cutting up drums all day long but it can do it.

How about Reaper?

http://www.reaper.fm/

Ive had cooledit, Nuendo, Cubase, and PT, Reaper kills them all, and is ridiculously affordable.

Yup.

I don't remember if it was ever available for Windows, but since Apple bought it from emagic it's been Mac only.

1 vote for Sonar here... been using it since before it was Sonar (Cakewalk), someone said the track layers are great, they are... I don't ever get lost tryng to find anything on the screen, be it a knob, tranport button, whatever... Cubase seems like it goes about some stuff backwards and the first time I used it, it was a PAIN to setup a basic track (just to select input took longer than I care too see on first blind setup sans-manual)... like I said, though... I've been watching Cakewalk/Sonar evolve since Cakewalk 3 or so, so it's more intuitive for me I guess.

+1 for Sonar. Very flexible bussing options is something I get a ton of use out of.

Another vote for Sonar. I've been using Cakewalk software for over ten years now. Track layers are great. The bus section is also very handy. Track folders make life easy. I'm still on v4, but am about to upgrade to 6.

I really take the bussing options for granted because there basicly is no limit.
