recording my first band

Post by bestnottoknow » Wed Dec 05, 2007 11:07 am

Hey guys Im doing my first live band session! IM renting a studio there is a control room and an isolation both. It is a 4 peice rock band drums 2 guitars and bass. The vocalist also sings and is doing a scratch track on vocals. The drumset is a 4 peice drum set ddrum Dominion Dominator 4 Piece Maple Drum If that helps. What is a good spot for the drums center or in a cornor? what mic's should I use the studio has a lot of mics so that should not be a problem. The bass player has an Ampeg SVT Bass Amp Half Stack and the lead guitar player has an Line 6 Vetta II Stack and the rythem vocal guitar player has an Marshall JVM410H and 1936 2x12 Half Stack. do you guys think I should isolate any instruments or should I use Di on any of the instruments? what mics do you guys like to use and what polar pattern. If you could tell me why you chose what you picked that would be great I want to know why It works so well thanks guys you have been a great help!

wow....

hire the house engineer, sit in the back, shut the fuck up and take notes?

just a suggestion...

Dude, 57s always float when you aren't looking. Put a video camera in your mic closet. It's magic.

if i was in any way involved in the actual performing of the music and i had more than $4k to play with, this is totally what i would do.
