if you have any pres with a d.i. built in, try running through the d.i. i've got an audio technologies tube pre that works great for this purpose.

Do all of the Effectrons have the limiter, or just the Jr.?

almost all of them have the diode limiter sound.
Try one out!

the alesis microlimter is dirt cheap and it distorts really well.
