They look very interesting, with condenser-like output and they're hand-built. I wonder how they compare with my R84 and M160. Has anyone had a taste of them?

Yes... I just tested them both out for an article I wrote. I'll post the article when it's out.
The 4080 is really nice. The 4081 is really good too, but when you have the 4080 right beside it and A/B, the 4080 always sounds more full. I recorded cello, vocals, guitar, drums, synths, organ, and harmonica with them. They're really sweet mics. If you're only using condensers and dynamics, getting some ribbons is a must.

I stopped using condensor mics as I don't think they sound good with daw and an average sounding room. Ribbon mics only these days except for drums and acoustic guitar, in this case i use faster dynamic mics.
I'm interested in the 4080 and 4081 because of their output and also because I find my R84 artificially hyped in the upper register.

Mentioning your feelings on the R84 would lead me to think you'd like the 4080 over the 4081. I have the 84 and tried both AT mics, and I found the 4080 to be less bright then the r84. But I think you might need a serious hpf with the 4080, for me there was too much going on in the basement for close micing. Hey, you can always audition them at home!
