Buying a used iMac to run Logic

Post by mechanicalmastering » Fri Jun 18, 2010 2:45 pm

I'm studio owner who works with mostly analog and am new to the digital game. I'm about to purchase a used iMac. Can all Intel iMacs run Logic? What model/specks should I be looking for, (RAM, HD, Processor, etc.)? Running a Mackie Digital Xbus with lightpipe into a Presonus Firestudio. Don't want to use hardware during mixdown, but at some point I would like to sync it to my tape machine using SMPTE.

Thanks guys!

get a 2core intel imac from about 2008/2009 and you'll be fine, even run a fair amount of plugins on it. I had a imac before and never really ran out of juice on it. make shure though you can run all interfaces through usb or firewire, no other options are available.

syncing tape shouldn't be a problem at all. rock solid in my exp.

Logic runs great on an intel iMac.

If the rig doesn't already have the RAM maxed out... do it.

great deals on RAM at Crucial.com and OWC.
