Studio Projects SE-1 Blew It's Top

Post by Suntower » Mon Nov 01, 2010 8:56 pm

Hi,

My venerable SE-1 got slammed into during a recording accident yesterday and hit the floor. Several things got whacked loose (several mounting screws and the windscreen on top) but when re-assembled it -seems- to be 'working'.

Three questions:
1. Other than using me ears, are there 'tests' a layperson can run to see if it's still in good working order?

2. If not, recommendations on where to get repaired in Seattle (or anywhere I suppose by mail)?

3. The windscreen on the TOP came off. It's two layers of mesh (one thin, then one thicker) that appear to be simply glued on. Any ideas on the proper glue to re-attach. (Can't complain about the workmanship at this price-point, I suppose.)

TIA,

---JC

I don't know if Michael Joly does flat out repairs - but maybe he could mod it. sort of like the six million dollar man - but hopefully it will cost less.

find him here on the board or at:

and was that the SE Electronics SE1 or Studio Projects C1???

D'OH!

ADHD. OCD. CIA. One of those.

You're totally right.

STUDIO PROJECTS C1. circa 2002-3, I think.

Seems to be working as far as I can tell.

I'll call that guy. Thanks!

Contact cement is normally used. 3M makes some in a small size.

I used to have a link for a good cement. Was going to use it on some old AKG's I have. The 3M might be fine, but there may be a reason I was going to go with the other stuff.

Let me see if I can find it.

The 3M should do the job though.

Or there is always the Trekkie option. Ambroid glue:

I can't believe I read that page. I now know more useless information than 99% of humanity.

I have contact cement. I'll give it a shot... er... unless I run across some vintage Romulan Bond-o. :D

Thanks,

Just out of curiosity... and tips on removing the -old- cement first?

They say lacquer thinner, nail polish remover.

I'd do lacquer thinner. Use a small brush, small amounts at a time.
Wipe off small sections with clean rag.

Thanks. For whoever follows on the vast interweb...

Goo-Gone.

Whoever invented it should be knighted. Or canonised. Something.

The thing looks good as new. (And that's what counts, right?) javascript:emoticon('')

Cheers,
