Got this weird little instrument called a bulbul tarang. They were invented in Japan around the turn of the century (19th to 20th) and became popular in India. It's a keyboard instrument, similar in principle to a clavichord, but instead of each key pushing up on a string or pair of strings, the keys push metal bars down across 8 strings, all tuned to the same note, and the bar makes the new note. Then you strum. Kind of a cross between a clavichord and an autoharp. There are also two sympathetic strings, but they seem kind of useless for this instrument (they're far from useless on a sitar, sarod or sarangi, but on this thing they really don't seem to add anything) so I may tweak things so those two strings work like the rest and there are 10 melody strings instead of 8. Will have to coil a pickup for it too. Nice fun toy for $20.
Awesome free stuff from craigslist: a suzuki digital piano, zildjian hi hats, medium ride and crash/ride. The crash ride has a crack along a seam, in a semi-circle. I guess I should epoxy it. The others are in great shape. Much better sounding than the cheap crappy cymbals I've been using.

AND, it can be used as a head to drive a 16 ohm cab! Still only 4 watts, but you could spread 'em around a lot more...

This all came in and just blew my mind:
Liked it so much I went ahead and ordered a second lunchbox with a little labs vog,
a standard audio level-or, and a radial x-amp to start with.
Love how these fit in skb pelican-style carry-ons (got a couple of those too).
Selling off my studio hurt, but this ultra portable stuff is easing the pain nicely.

nice little digi delay. it's like a portable effectron with the modulation. it can do chorus, flange and has a noisy feedback oscillation, dub style!
