Problem Syncing Tape with Logic

Post by Relyet » Thu Jul 21, 2011 7:22 pm

Hello, I have had some issues during my first attempt at syncing my Tascam 388 and Logic. I would appreciate any help.

Here goes:

- I have striped the tape with the SMTPE signal (track 8 ).
- I set up logic to receive this signal (synchronization settings). The ruler turns blue, etc. I think I have the settings correct.
- I press play on the 388 and the SMPTE clock in Logic starts acting crazy. It goes to 00:59:43:01.25 with the last 2 digits (.25) spazzing out. So, the tape machine and Logic are "communicating" at least, but no success in getting the process to work properly.

That's as far as I can get. Any help would be great.

Thanks!

P.S. To clarify, I need to first send the striped track to Logic, but what is the process after that, in order to make sure every other track records in sync? Do I change the settings in Logic to make Logic the new master and the tape machine the slave?

If the time code on your tape starts at 00:00:00:00 your problem may be that Logic is waiting to start until 01:00:00:00. Try changing your session start time to 00:00:00:00 in Logic and see what happens.

Also, make sure Logic is looking for the same frame rate you printed on the tape. Logic is set to 25 fps by default.

Man, I don't know the frame rate for this machine. I'll try to figure that out.

Actually now that I think about it I think Logic will pop up an error if the frame rates don't match and give you the option to conform to the incoming rate. Can't remember for sure...been a while since I did any sync with Logic.
