Thank you TapeOp!!

I just wanted to say thank you to Tape Op and all of the msgboard contributors for helping me build by project studio. After years and years of fighting room modes, flutter echo, etc, I finally have a space that I am excited to record in! The great articles in the mag, Ethan Winer and JWL's posts, and learning from the experiences from others. A dedicated listening position, OC703, DIY diffusers and the like make such a drastic difference. Anyways I posted pics and detailed info on my site.

Thanks again to the entire community!

Your studio looks great. I like that you added some decor and didn't go strictly for the utilitarian, racks and sound treatment as decor option.

I do have a few issues with some of the content of your site. For example, you say that 38% back from a short wall (in a rectangular room) is the ideal "mix position". This is often NOT the case. It's a great place to start looking for the perfect spot, but what is truly "best" is actually going to vary from room to room and also probably a million other factors, such as, humidity, personal choice, construction materials, monitors, etc., etc., etc. I'm glad that worked out for you, but I wouldn't be telling newbs to just set their head back 38% and they're all set.

Thanks CK! You're right in that I do need to do some polishing on the articles that are on the site. I am currently struggling with keeping them short and concise enough for people just starting out. I also need to add links to other sites that I've gotten info from, like RealTraps and the like. BTW, I've corrected that point about the listening position that you pointed out and credited you with the info. -- okay, I'm going to shut up now as I don't want to get too far off topic from 'Making a Space'

Don't credit me with that?! I learned that here. And I'm still learning.

No apology necessary at all. I appreciate how open you are to feedback. And your studio really does look great.

Sorry to be a downer but the stuff on the bathroom door will do nothing to eliminate sound going INTO that room. Guaranteed. Looks like a decent home setup otherwise. I'll shut up now.

@Brett Siler - Thanks! I could never get a definitive answer on how to put loudspeakers on a desk (decouple with MoPad type isolators vs couple them with mass). The faux-books coupling them to the desk seems to be working from what I can tell.

@TapeOpLarry - No, not a downer at all. You're right, I can definitely hear sound inside the bathroom, but it does not seem to affect listening or tracking too much as it's behind the listening position. Sometimes I open the door and put a mic inside the bathroom for a reverb type effect. Do you think I should opt for more aggressive treatment on the door?

"I should opt for more aggressive treatment on the door?"

No, but claiming that stuff on the outside of the door like that cuts down sound going into the bathroom was what I saw as misleading. It's treatment, not soundproofing. You know?

No biggie, but that stuff drives me crazy! You want to stop sound transmission through a door? Now that ain't easy!
