NV73 Preamp - DIY Kit

Post by earth tones » Sun Mar 11, 2012 11:44 am

Have any of you built or used one of these NV73 Kit Preamps??

I'm looking for a quality DIY preamp to build and came across the NV73 over on the GroupDIY site.

Haven't heard of that one. Looks nice to get the aluminum frame and stuff, but I think this one would probably be a better deal in the end:
http://www.audiomaintenance.com/acatalog/kits.html (EZ1073) Folks at prodigy pro seem to like it quite a bit. My friend built one and loves it.

Includes all the inductors and transformers (including the line input, very nice addition and the power transformer) and just about everything but the case. Since you were looking at euros anyway.
Stilgar, we've got wormsign the likes of which God has never seen!

I haven't built one and don't know how they sound, but I love the way they did their instructions. Very visual and easy to follow.

Yes, the instructions are well organized.

Honkyjonk, the BOM for the NV73 actually links to the same AudioMaintenance site to purchase a kit that includes the transformers. So it sounds as if this is a legit build to attempt.

AML is definitely Legit. Colin is great. Haven't tried the kits but I bought a 5003d and its very nice.

NV73s are great, but personally I think it's worth having the EQ. The AML kits are the closest thing i've heard to our Neve 1070L's by FAR.
