Female EDAC/ELCO to Female EDAC/ELCO coupler

Post by Leopold » Mon Mar 12, 2012 3:01 pm

Anyone know where I can find, and if it even exits, a coupler so I can join two ELCOs with male ends together? Been searching online with no luck.

Thanks,
Eddie

Like a DB25 gender changer? Never met one.

When I have that problem, I usually just swap out the face of one connector for the opposite gender.

A number of years ago, I swizzled a few ADAT snakes to work on a Soundcraft 600 by swapping ELCO faces. A pinpuller tool is expensive, but very handy if you're going to play in the ELCO world.

Basically all I want to do is couple the male elco from my tape outputs to my maie elco for my DAW inputs so I can transfer tapes to digital.

Yeah, I've never met a simple piece of hardware that would do that. The mirror-imaging of the pin layout is probably a bit awkward to translate, also.

You could always build one with a couple of female connectors and a bit of cable in between.

I still think swapping out one of the faceplates is an easier solution.

Well, this would mean having to replace the the ELCO that goes into my board and since I'm constantly swapping from DAW to analog sessions it's just not worth it. I was thinking of just setting up an external patchbay that has elco inputs and normalling it so that when I need to do transfers I just connect the elcos the output from my deck feeds the ins of my daw.

Gotcha.

It sounds like whatever you do, there's going to be some ELCO wiring done.

With the right tools, ELCOs are actually really easy to deal with. I greatly prefer them to Dsub, Teuchel, and many of the other multipin options.

You could always wire up the adapter you need with regular ELCO connectors and some 16 pair cable in between...or maybe even 8-pair, if you only need to have the deck outputs to meet the DAW inputs, and not the other way around.

I might even have a short scrap of 8-pair mogami hanging around if you go that route.

I recently bought one of these for some DB25 snakes

Seems like they should have an ELCO version somewhere too right?

If such a thing exists, I've never seen one.

I figure if either EDAC or ELCO made one, they would list it in their datasheets:

Yeah that would work beautifully. I haven't had any luck finding something like that for elcos.

Thanks again you guys.
