a 4' x 8' piece of furniture grade birch play is what, like $60? got some tools or a friend with some tools?

cut, screw, sand, screw, drink beer.

Did this. Used a solid-core luan mahogany door for the top and some pieces of 1x2 oak for the trim around it. I think the total cost was easily less than $200, including the rack rails. 14U on each side.
