Studer A80 question

Post by reel_to_real » Sat Sep 08, 2012 2:06 pm

Hi,

Does anyone know if you can do off-tape monitoring on a Studer A80 VU or RC 2 track, which has the capability of recording on each track separately? Put another way, can you record on track 1 then record on track 2 whilst monitoring/listening to track 1?

Thanks

Honestly, I've never tried on my A80. I assume it works.

On my old A80RC 1/4" there was a mono erase head, so it wasn't possible to record on the tracks individually. I seem to remember there being no way to monitor off the sync/record head either. That would make it hard to overdub anything.

My 1/2" A80RC can record the two tracks individually, but again, no sync head playback.

Hi Greg, thanks for the reply.

I gather from what you said the machine would need a sync playback head.
