Re: Tascam reintroducing high bias cassettes
The scene I came up in, the legend was that the shorter running time tapes had thicker backing than the longer ones, and the 90's were more prone to stretching/breaking/snarling, moreso on the high speed machines. So we'd opt for 46's - 13 minutes on a 238.

That Tascam tape looks neat but I can only afford to re-use tape that's decades old, lol
Re: Tascam reintroducing high bias cassettes
I dropped by the Tascam site this morning, and they have a page for their cassette: https://tascam.com/us/product/424/top
ATM looks like $21.99 for a single cassette.
They are probably made by National Audio Co, and they’ll sell you a box of 10 for $40. But it won’t have those silly little reels.
Continuing my survey, looks like people are selling 10 unopened oldschool XL-II’s for $65 on Reverb.
Curious.
I still have and use 4-track cassette for fun, so I’m interested in this topic.

*note actual metal reels rather than plastic with air brushed "sheen" spots.

$21.99 is too expensive for me. I've got a healthy supply already but would have bought a few at around $10.

At work we were going through old storage and throwing out a lot of old Imation data cartridges. Geez, would have been interesting if Tascam,Yamaha et al would have used this tech to make a nice step up in performance and maybe extend the format a while longer..or not. Digital was not to be denied when it finally arrived.
