I've only got it on a room mic for some high gain guitar, which is a pretty "boring" application, but I wanted to keep the same close mic pres that I had already started with, so I just swapped out the room mic pre, and even on that, it's a noticeable difference. To his suggestion, dialed in the input until it started distorting, and then two clicks back. Voila!. Can't wait to move it onto a close mic for next round of guitars.digitaldrummer wrote: ↑Tue Apr 05, 2022 6:11 amif I recall, the subject here was the Hairball Copper preamp. Besides using a pair for room mics all the time, it is my go-to pre for just about anything. Used one yesterday with a Weird Audio W47 mod2 (M7 style capsule) to track male vocals, tenor sax, and guiro and it was fantastic.

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
I am so stoked.
I re acquired "Recording The Beatles" by Curvebender publishing. With all the extras, and in near mint condition. Under 1K USD. ($750 plus shipping.)
I was so angry at myself because my original book got waterlogged in our last move, and I thought I would never ever get another copy.

If any of you get a chance to buy one if they ever release a second edition, do so. It is an amazing book.

Howling at the neighbors. Hoping they have more mic cables.

Yeah, I read that origin story.
I never heard that band, actually.
But I do like the pedal.
But on guitar, which is where I read somewhere it was recommended.

I believe the inspiration was a RAT + HM2. That pedal is the shit on bass for heavy stuff.
Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
I recorded with it today on guitar, may use it on bass tomorrow.

Just got one of these Klark-Teknik Mic Boost (like a Cloudlifter but way cheaper @ $35). interested to see how it works or if it is noisy - reviews seem to be good though. Plan to use it to boost a low output ribbon so I can drive the preamp a bit more sometimes. +25dB should do it...

Mine is pretty damn noisy. Hopefully they're not all that way.digitaldrummer wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 6:48 pmJust got one of these Klark-Teknik Mic Boost (like a Cloudlifter but way cheaper @ $35). interested to see how it works or if it is noisy - reviews seem to be good though. Cloudlifter is noticeably more invisible.

Here's what the Peavey Transtube Audition 110 sounds like - lotta EQ in mixing - I shoulda used a ribbon instead of a 609, heavy distorted tones are a pedal (Idiotbox Blowerbox) ...

Grabbed a stream deck XL. This thing is crazy-useful!
Still slowly adding shortcuts to it as I run into repeat functions in PT & Logic.

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
I picked up a Meris 440 preamp (500 series) the other day. It's a pretty nice "API flavor" preamp as is (used it with a ribbon mic to record a pedal steel this week) and I'm looking forward to using the effects loop for recording or mixing purposes...
