I use water and/or diluted Formula 409 and rinse later
Unless Formula 409 is nothing but alcohol... that was what was posted as the Studer person's method.
Cheers.
Howling at the neighbors. Hoping they have more mic cables.

Just ordered the Athan stuff. I’m still using 4-tracks sometimes, and one of the pinch rollers has turned into a hard, crystallized puck.

I love 4 track machines. Curious as to the make/model of yours.

I have two 4-tracks. Tascam 424 II has been solid and reliable. This week I’m picking up my Peavey MCR-4 from a repair shop, it was not running at consistent speed. The belts had been replaced.
The repair guy says the hardened pinch roller wasn’t gripping the tape well, but cleaning should help. I might replace it anyway. The other issue is the plastic cassette door has some broken plastic bits and doesn’t close all the way, which drags on the tape.
So I’ll be looking to rig up some kind of latch for the cassette door to close it all the way.

Every time I see this thread, I think "Pinch Roller" could be a good band name.

What tape are you using for the 424?

Im going through a box of Type II cassettes i got from Delta Media Long ago. when those are gone i have a brick of tapes from Tapes.Com to get into. I’ve also got a bunch of NOS TDK’s that I guess I’m saving for special occasions or something.
Tapes.com was pretty cheap. I ordered c-47’s, which had a decent price and will give me 11 minutes of recording time at double speed.

thx for the tip. i have a pretty healthy stock of maxell 60 xlii-s but i never want to worry about running out of tape. didn't know chrome tape was still available.

I could swear there was a band the Capstan in their name, maybe even in Chicago.

I actually spent a moment or so envisioning the
Pinch Roller logo.
All I am willing to disclose is that same will be primarily brown in color.

I'm with A.David.MacKinnon - only soap and mild dish detergent for my pinch rollers. Never alcohol. But then I don't own a Studer.
