Samson PL1602 mixer, LED replacement?

Post by alexdingley » Mon Aug 08, 2022 7:27 am

Anyone ever take one of these apart? Anyone have a schematic? I really dig this little cheap-o line mixer, and it's great for keyboards. The only annoying thing is that the led power indicator has been flaky from day 1. you have to nudge it around to get it to make successful contact and light up, so it's hard to know that the unit is on most of the time.

I'm not shy about opening up a unit and changing out a part, but before I do, I wanted to see if I could have the right part identified & ordered (minimizing downtime & hassles)

I reached out to Samson, but who knows if/when they'll get back to me with an answer about the part#. If anyone has an insight, it'd be appreciated.

If the LED is just intermittent, you can open it up, find it, and resolder its leads.

Just make sure to document how you opened it, so you can reverse your way back to the start point afterwards.

Precisely... I just won't know if the issue is intermittence on the board-side or in the "bulb" (the molded green plastic) until I open it up. Fingers-crossed.

In my limited experience, it is usually old / cold / bad solder joints, before any component failure, especially an LED.

LEDs either work, or they don't. They don't have an intermittent failure stage.

Wow! That was so much easier than I imagined it would be. Nick, it was exactly as you figured; cold solder joint.

5min fix.

Nick is a strong contender for TOMB MVP. I wish I'd followed his advice more precisely when I bought my A&H mixer.

I had to fix a similar LED problem on my mixer. It's not too hard. I used a regular 3mm LED because it fits most mixers. Just check that the LED matches your mixer's voltage.

I found easy step-by-step guides on leds.to. First, you have to open up the mixer carefully. Find the LED that's not working. You have to unsolder the old one and put in the new one, ensuring it's the right way around. Then solder it back, and that's it.
