I just remembered, I have the red, blue and black "Blue ball" phantom powered dynamic xlr mics.

They actually sound good, but can be slightly tweaky to set in place.

It was hard for me to take BLUE serious anymore after that product line. Seemed the company was moving more to the podcaster market from then on.

don't confuzz the Blue "snowball" usb pudcrapper mics

these are phantom-powered dynamics, allegedly EQ'd for kick (black), voice (blue), or instrument (red)

haven't used in a while but they seemed more or less like a dynamic thru a booster

I bought a Shure 556S (Elvis mic) simply because I think they just look incredible, and I'd wanted one since I was a kid (my elementary school was built in the early 50s and the PA system in the office had one). Turns out the mic actually sounds really nice on certain things, like my overly bright Ampeg J12 combo amp.

I also bought a pair of Altec 689B mics because they look like 60s space age laboratory equipment and are painted green. And those things sound great on nearly everything.

I bought a Blue Baby Bottle in college based mainly on looks. I sold it after a few years and I rarely sell mics.

I've always thought the Sage Bova Ball looked neat but never found high practical demand for an Omni only condenser in my studio.

I had the bova ball. I got it because Joel spoke so highly of them AND they looked cool. It’s was awesome sounding, but very limited use for me.

I would love to try one of those. I’ve never had two omnis where I could approximate binaural.

I still have one of those. I would have sold it long ago except that I love what it does on acoustic guitars. That's pretty much the only thing it does that I like and even then it's a very specific acoustic sound and not always what you want.
