Compressing rhythm guitars

Tonight I pulled up a mix started a week or so ago. I hadn't heard it since the night we first worked on it. Upon hearing the clean guitar intro I immediately reached for some parallel compression. I was both trying to take a little of the edge off the attack and add some tone in the low mids. I compared the VLA and the Meek SC2.2. The VLA did the trick.
