thanks nick s ....... i have mucho pondering to do ......... i will check out your pictures etc ......... pretty sure i fried a capacitor next to the
power connector for the drive that was on top of the caddy .......... i have a friend who has some tech background ....... but need to get the
schematics before i see him ........ my unit was the MX2424 [ not the MX2424SE ....... which i believe is set up like yours ........ ? ] ............
I can send you some photo's if you'd like to take a look [ my descriptions are probably a bit confusing ] ......... i'll check out "private messages"

Nick,
on the forth picture you sent [ bottom ] to the right of the 4 prong power connector is C204 ..... capacitor ? ..... it is cooked on my unit , like melted .
into a flat lump.
i unpowered all the drives and turned the unit on ....
it seemed that smoke started to come from the ribbon connecting the hard drives to the circuit board etc ?
scary !!
like you said , i need a good tech.

Hi Dusty,
I hope you can repair the MX. No need to send pictures to me as I could not really help remotely on
any repair advise further than what I have written.
Good luck!!!

Re: Tascam MX2424 front panel expansion bay
thanks nick for your help ! i learned that the MX2424's that are out there have been used and modified etc etc
and #2 not to mess around or assume anything with what is inside these units. Looking for a good tech and i did purchase
another MX2424 which has only one hard drive in the front bay and only one 4 prong power connection inside. it is called
MX2424SE. I didn't realize you had one for sale.
any suggestions on backing up ........ ?

Re: Tascam MX2424 front panel expansion bay
I really don't know what to tell ya at this point in time.
Mine is the version which has the ability for the front panel drive, and it works fine.
Mine does not have a weirdo internal drive... like yours, which might have been a mod. It only has a drive caddy for recording onto
one drive, which is the caddy. If I wanted more drives, there is the SCSI connector in the back to plug in old external enclosures, which I never needed nor have.
I would try with your second MX2424... with the drives you have, if the caddy is the same. If that does not work,
then I'd maybe buy mine. If you do not need cables I can sell it a little cheaper. Mine has the remote, remote cable,
ethernet cable, and paper manual. I also can make a copy of all the software (MX Net it was called) to use a PC to control the MX with,
along with all their firmware, etc.
Best of luck with the ones you do have, I hope you get it to work!
