The best deal I ever got was a shure level loc at a pawn shop. I asked the guy about the "black box" in the corner, and he said $5, cause i was the only one who had ever asked about it. And this was about a year and a half ago.

MusicMan 130HD head and Marshall 2x12 1960 Lead Cab: $300 - former band member had to get outta town and needed scratch fast.

Rhodes 73 Stage Piano: free - some friends moved into a new apt., was sitting there for 4 months before they asked if I would be interested in "this piano thing that's in a big black case."

RCA 77DX: free - my studio partner works at the local conservatory sometimes. Someone donated it to the school, they had no use for it. Since he had done so much work over there, they gave it to him. Score!

G&L F-100 with generic case; I have a passive and an active. Each time the Pawn Shop guy somehow got the idea that they were cheap Japanese Fender copies. I paid less than US$135 each.

Mesa Boogie Mark II B: I knew a guy who knew a guy who was driving to Cali in a compact and couldn't take the amp. US$125 an' a couple left-handed ciggeez, one of which we shared before he left.

Fender "P" bass: there is no decal on the refin'd neck, but it's real. Seems this girl I was seeing occasionally got rather angry at her boyfriend who was seeing another girl occasionally... I think I ordered us a pizza that night, probably had a bottle of Gallo with her.

Fender Pro, Jr.: US$125. My ex-wife had a great smile and totally charmed the Banjo Mart guy who sold it barely used. Tweed, too!

Fender Rhodes 72 Suitcase: Supposedly fell of a major-label tour truck in the '70's. I gave a Fernandes guitar and a little S/S amp to the son of the guy who gave it to me, although he asked for nothing.

Music store i used to work at, about 3 months ago, some lady came in the store with a bass drum, floor tom and snare drum from an early 60's, chicago badge, slingerland drum set in black diamond pearl finish. the owner gave her $25 for it plus a few items of the original hardware. I sold it to myself for $50. found a 12" matching tom on ebay, set myself up with all new stands and hardware from the shop. grand total $300-350.

Cheers for the offer, Shawn, but I sold it to some Japanese dude the week after buying it after realising how much they sell for.

Why are they in such demand apart from their association with the Beatles?

yep, a real mellotron. only problem with it is, when people start playing it, they want to put it on EVERYTHING.
